The government launched its Public Sector Food Procurement Initiative, for public sector to use their purchasing power to provide healthier food in all sorts of environmentally & socially friendly ways. DEFRA's Catering Services Food Procurement Toolkit, Toolkit Checklist, Action Plan,Analysis 2007.

Kings Fund work with NHS has best developed model for articulating the necessary skills and "jobs to be done". This is the start for what learning and skills are required.

Promoting Sustainable Food is a new (2008) Unit at Level 2 (for Level 3 & 4 personnel), in vocational qualification Developing Environmental Awareness from Open College North West.

Sustainable Food Production Standards. Improve SSC are consulting (Feb 09) about National Occupational Standards (NOSs), which "can be applied to provide the specialist knowledge and skills needed by people who are responsible for developing and supporting sustainability in a food environment at a strategic, management and operative level".
