Issues
| | Sustainable Food ... Are we 'what we eat'? If so, click underlined text to see some of the issues that come with your food! To deal with these issues, the UK government wants more "sustainable food". Click for various definitions of 'Sustainable Food'. 'Sustainable' food: Promotes a responsible use of resources, recognises possible ill-health effects, reduces negative environmental impacts and provides a basis for long term - sustained - production. Considers social aspects, including ethical concerns, of people in the food chain - many of whom cannot afford the food they produce. Enhances the environment, encourages social involvement, evolves to remain vital forever, AND also Ensures economic viability.
There are all sorts of foods, including "ethical", "local", "slow" and "organic". 'Sustainable' food brings these together and to enhance simultaneously the environment, society and the wider economy.
Health and hygiene are newer concerns in food presentation. Sustainable food encourages food that is healthier to both people and the planet.
